Antigravity vs Claude Code now comes down to two $20 subscriptions that both include Claude. A paid Google AI Pro plan ($19.99 a month) gives you Google Antigravity, Google's agent in a desktop app, an IDE, editor extensions and a terminal CLI, with Gemini 4 Argon and also Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5 ([Antigravity models](https://antigravity.google/docs/models), [Google AI plans](https://gemini.google/subscriptions/)). Claude Pro ($20 a month) gives you Claude Code, Anthropic's own agent, defaulting to Opus 5.5, plus the Claude apps ([Claude pricing](https://claude.com/pricing), [Claude Code model configuration](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/model-config)). The model can be identical. The agent around it, the allowance behind it and the terms that govern your data are not.

The short version: if Claude is the model you would use all day and you have neither plan, our default is Claude Pro. That is a judgment from documented features, not a measured capacity win: you get Claude inside the agent Anthropic builds for it, a documented 1M-token context window, cloud sessions using Claude that keep working with your laptop closed, and an allowance that is all Claude rather than a side pool; Google describes its Claude access as a separate, capacity-limited pool and Pro's Antigravity limits as "entry" level ([context windows](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/8606394-how-large-is-the-context-window-on-paid-claude-plans), [cloud sessions](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/claude-code-on-the-web), [Antigravity plan changes](https://antigravity.google/blog/changes-to-antigravity-plans/), [Google AI plans](https://gemini.google/subscriptions/)). Choose Google AI Pro if Gemini 4 Argon will be your main model with Claude on the side, or if you already pay for it for Google's other services. Cloud coding alone does not decide between the subscriptions: Google AI Pro also includes Jules, a separate Gemini-powered agent that runs repositories in cloud VMs and supports recurring scheduled tasks ([Jules plans](https://jules.google/docs/usage-limits/), [Jules](https://jules.google/), [scheduling](https://jules.google/docs/scheduled-tasks/)). Neither company publishes a task count for Claude use on its $20 plan, so the closing sections explain how to check on your own repository and when to switch.

Plans, prices, limits and features were read from Google's and Anthropic's own pages on 20 October 2026, signed out, in the US. We also downloaded Antigravity CLI 1.4.3, the newest release that day ([release 1.4.3](https://github.com/google-antigravity/antigravity-cli/releases/tag/1.4.3)), and read its built-in help and full release notes without signing in. We ran no paid sessions in either product, so this compares access, documented capability and terms, not code quality or how far each allowance goes. Voyager, the desktop app our team builds, runs Claude Code on its official runtime with your Claude sign-in, with usage counting against your Claude plan's limits.

## What each is

**Google Antigravity** is Google's agent platform. Its four surfaces share one agent: the **Antigravity app** for macOS, Windows and Linux, which has no code editor and organizes agent conversations by project; the original **Antigravity IDE**; **IDE extensions** for VS Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains IDEs, Zed and Xcode; and **Antigravity CLI** (`agy`) in the terminal ([Antigravity 2.0](https://antigravity.google/blog/introducing-google-antigravity-2), [IDE extensions](https://antigravity.google/docs/ide/extensions/)).

**Claude Code** is Anthropic's coding agent, in the terminal, VS Code and JetBrains, the Claude desktop app, the web and the Claude mobile apps ([overview](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/overview)). Anthropic supports it with Claude models only ([LLM gateway](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/llm-gateway)). It comes with paid Claude plans, or runs on an Anthropic API key or a supported cloud provider; the free Claude plan does not include it ([pricing](https://claude.com/pricing), [authentication](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/authentication)). Both products are proprietary.

All rows read 20 October 2026. Google's list also carries Claude 4.6 and GPT-OSS-120B until 2 November 2026 ([models](https://antigravity.google/docs/models)). The next step up is Ultra at $99.99 or $199.99 on Google's side and Max at $100 or $200 on Anthropic's ([Google AI plans](https://gemini.google/subscriptions/), [Max plan](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/11049741-what-is-the-max-plan)).

If you would pay for Google's storage, YouTube or Gemini app anyway, Antigravity's Claude access costs you nothing extra and the question becomes whether to add Claude Pro. Two eligibility checks before buying Google's plan for Antigravity: Antigravity requires you to be 18 or older, and Google keeps separate country lists for Google AI Pro and for Antigravity ([Antigravity FAQ](https://antigravity.google/docs/faq/), [Google AI Pro membership](https://support.google.com/googleone/answer/16476811)).

## Same Claude model, different agent and allowance

Picking Claude Opus 5.5 in Antigravity gets you Anthropic's model inside Google's agent, on Google's limits.

![Antigravity's model menu as documented for a Google AI Pro trial on 20 October 2026: Gemini 3.8 Flash, Claude Sonnet 4.6 (Thinking), Claude Opus 4.6 (Thinking) and GPT-OSS 120B, with no Claude 5.5 or Gemini 4 Argon.](https://cdn.moda.app/voyager/blog/antigravity-vs-claude-code/fig-trial2-a7bf3be89e9e550b.webp)

Google's documentation with the Google AI Pro (Trial) tab selected, 20 October 2026. Trials get the Claude 4.6 models, which Google removes on 2 November.

**A trial cannot show you Claude 5.5.** Claude Sonnet and Opus 5.5 and Gemini 4 Argon need a paid, non-trial Pro or Ultra subscription; the docs link an upgrade request for trial users ([Antigravity models](https://antigravity.google/docs/models), [FAQ](https://antigravity.google/docs/faq/)). A Pro trial shows Claude 4.6 instead, and the 4.6 models and GPT-OSS-120B are removed on 2 November 2026, which leaves Gemini 3.8 Flash as the only agent model the docs list for trials after that date. A repository collaborator on Google's issue tracker added that Pro access through device promotions and partner benefits does not include Claude 5.5 either ([issue #1184](https://github.com/google-antigravity/antigravity-cli/issues/1184#issuecomment-6047077915)).

**Claude has its own lane, of unpublished size.** Google says "because of capacity limitations for non-Gemini models, they remain on a separate fixed rate limit", and states its Ultra plans' five-times and twenty-times multipliers in terms of Gemini tokens ([Antigravity plan changes](https://antigravity.google/blog/changes-to-antigravity-plans/)). The usage panel in Google's documentation shows the two pools, "Gemini Models" and "Claude and GPT models", each with a weekly and a five-hour gauge (pictured at the top of this page, from the documentation's example for a paid Pro plan). Using up Claude does not touch your Gemini allowance, and once the weekly cap is gone, the next five-hour refresh does not bring Claude back. User reports of how fast it empties vary widely and come with unknown tasks and settings, as do reports about Claude Pro.

**Custom subagents spend Claude unless you tell them not to.** Antigravity's custom subagents take a model tier of `inherit`, `flash` or `pro`, and the default is `inherit` ([subagents](https://antigravity.google/docs/subagents/)), so with Claude as your main model, custom subagents left on the default also run on Claude. A user filed this on 3 October: concurrent subagents "rapidly depletes the 5-hour and weekly Claude quota on trivial tasks" ([issue #1150](https://github.com/google-antigravity/antigravity-cli/issues/1150)). If you use Claude in Antigravity, set `model: flash` on custom subagents that do routine searching. Claude Code subagents can also be pinned to a cheaper model with a `model` field ([Claude Code subagents](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/sub-agents)), but there every model draws on the same plan limit.

**Claude Pro's limit is shared with chat.** Pro has a five-hour session limit and a weekly limit, and "these limits are shared across Claude and Claude Code", IDE use included ([Claude Code with Pro or Max](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/11145838-use-claude-code-with-your-pro-or-max-plan)). Long chats in the Claude app come out of your coding week.

**Overage works differently.** Google AI Pro and Ultra can switch to purchased AI credits, "consumed at standard Gemini Enterprise consumption pricing", with an overage setting of Never or Always ([Antigravity plans](https://antigravity.google/docs/plans)); the plans page describes this per model, but Google does not publish what a Claude request costs in credits. Paid Claude plans can switch to usage credits at standard API rates, with a monthly cap ([usage credits](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/12429409-manage-usage-credits-for-paid-claude-plans)).

**The harness is Google's.** Claude in Antigravity runs with Google's system prompt, tools and permission model ([Antigravity hooks](https://antigravity.google/docs/hooks/), [permissions](https://antigravity.google/docs/permissions/)). Its effort control offers Low, Medium and High in the app ([models](https://antigravity.google/docs/models)), while the CLI's `--effort` flag is documented with three levels ([headless](https://antigravity.google/docs/cli/headless/)) and its own help in version 1.4.3 lists five: `low`, `medium`, `high`, `xhigh` and `max`. Google's model page does not state the context window it gives Claude; Claude Code gives Opus and Sonnet 5.5 a 1M-token window on Pro ([context windows on paid plans](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/8606394-how-large-is-the-context-window-on-paid-claude-plans)).

## Where the harnesses differ

Both agents read an `AGENTS.md`, load Agent Skills and MCP servers, run custom subagents, install plugins and run headless ([Antigravity CLI features](https://antigravity.google/docs/cli/features/), [Claude Code features overview](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/features-overview)). What differs:

**Reviewing work.** In Antigravity the agent writes an implementation plan you can comment on line by line before it changes files, then hands back diffs, screenshots and a recording of its browser session as artifacts you can annotate ([artifacts](https://antigravity.google/docs/artifacts/)). Claude Code's desktop app covers much of the same ground, with a browser pane in which Claude takes screenshots, clicks and fills forms to check its own changes, and panes for background tasks and subagents ([desktop](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/desktop)). Claude Code also has a plan mode and comments on diffs; what is distinctive in Antigravity is steering the agent by annotating its plan and its browser recordings as artifacts, and having it generate mockups and page images with Nano Banana 2 ([models](https://antigravity.google/docs/models)).

**Approvals and containment.** Claude Code's auto mode applies your own allow and deny rules, approves reads and edits inside your working directory, and sends most other actions to a separate classifier model that can block one and tell Claude why ([permission modes](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/permission-modes)). Antigravity's CLI auto mode approves edits and safe commands, and has a separate agent review commands that would leave its sandbox ([release 1.3.5](https://github.com/google-antigravity/antigravity-cli/releases/tag/1.3.5)). For shell commands, the Antigravity app on macOS and Linux has the stricter default: they run in a sandbox with the network closed except for domains you allow ([sandbox](https://antigravity.google/docs/sandbox/)). On Windows 11 24H2 or later, Antigravity CLI can sandbox natively, where Claude Code needs WSL2 ([CLI features](https://antigravity.google/docs/cli/features/), [release 1.4.1](https://github.com/google-antigravity/antigravity-cli/releases/tag/1.4.1), [Claude Code sandboxing](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/sandboxing)).

**Hooks.** Antigravity has six events: `SessionStart`, `PreToolUse`, `PostToolUse`, `PreInvocation`, `PostInvocation` and `Stop`. `PreToolUse` can approve a call automatically and `PostToolUse` sees a failed command's error, and the invocation pair runs around each model call ([Antigravity hooks](https://antigravity.google/docs/hooks/)). Claude Code has 33, adding dedicated events such as `PermissionRequest`, `PostToolUseFailure`, `FileChanged`, `PreCompact` and `WorktreeCreate` ([Claude Code hooks](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/hooks)). Most gating and logging works in both; lifecycle hooks around worktrees, file changes and compaction exist only in Claude Code.

**Work that continues without you.** Claude Code's cloud sessions run in an Anthropic virtual machine, from a GitHub repository or an uploaded local one, and keep going after you close the laptop; its scheduled tasks, a research preview, start on a schedule, an API call or a GitHub event ([cloud sessions](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/claude-code-on-the-web), [scheduled tasks](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/routines)). Both need a cloud environment with your dependencies and draw on the same Pro limit.

Antigravity itself documents no hosted execution equivalent. Its Remote Control lets you steer a session from any browser, phone included, "as long as the machine running it is on" ([Antigravity Remote Control](https://antigravity.google/docs/remote-control/)), and its automations, which keep running with no conversation open ([schedule](https://antigravity.google/docs/commands/schedule/)), are configured in your home folder alongside the app ([sidecars](https://antigravity.google/docs/sidecars/)). The model choice for an automation is Gemini: Flash Lite, Flash or Pro since 15 October ([app changelog, 2.24.0](https://antigravity.google/docs/changelog)).

The Google subscription does cover cloud coding through Jules, a separate Gemini-powered agent that clones a GitHub repository into a cloud VM and returns changes for review ([Jules](https://jules.google/)). Google AI Pro includes 100 Jules tasks per rolling 24 hours and 15 concurrent tasks, with higher access to Gemini models starting with Gemini 3 Pro; these are Jules limits, not Antigravity's Claude pool. Paid Jules plans currently require an individual @gmail.com account and users 18 or older ([Jules plans and limits](https://jules.google/docs/usage-limits/)). Jules can run recurring tasks daily or weekly without manual re-prompting; changing a schedule currently requires deleting and recreating it ([scheduled tasks](https://jules.google/docs/scheduled-tasks/)). Choose Claude Pro when the cloud work needs Claude Code; either subscription can cover cloud repository maintenance if you are open to its respective agent and models.

**Surfaces.** Gemini 4 Argon is "not available in Antigravity IDE", only in the app, the CLI and the editor extensions, and Google plans to remove the Agent Manager from the IDE ([models](https://antigravity.google/docs/models), [Antigravity 2.0](https://antigravity.google/blog/introducing-google-antigravity-2)). If you start on Antigravity, start in the app, the CLI or an extension in the editor you already use.

## Data, privacy and account rules

**Training and review.** On personal Google accounts, Antigravity's terms say Google uses your interactions "to evaluate, develop, and improve Google and Alphabet research, products, services and machine learning technologies" and that "Google employees and contractors may access, view, review and use Interactions"; you can change this in settings ([Antigravity terms, clause 5](https://antigravity.google/terms)), where the switch is Enable Telemetry under Settings, Account ([settings](https://antigravity.google/docs/settings/#data-collection-settings)). The terms state no retention period; you can email a deletion request. Business accounts through Google Cloud or Workspace fall under their own contracts instead, and Antigravity CLI's notes say prompts and responses are never collected for them ([release 1.4.1](https://github.com/google-antigravity/antigravity-cli/releases/tag/1.4.1)). On Claude Pro, Anthropic trains on new chats and Claude Code sessions when your model-improvement setting is on, and keeps that data for five years, or 30 days with it off; feedback you send with `/feedback` is a separate path ([Claude Code data usage](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/data-usage)).

Choosing Claude inside Antigravity does not take you out of Google's terms. Anthropic's commercial terms apply on top ([Antigravity terms, clause 8](https://antigravity.google/terms)), but your prompts reach Claude through Google's agent, so Google's interaction terms still govern what Google keeps.

**What you may plug in.** Neither subscription is a general model API. Google's FAQ says using third-party software such as Claude Code, OpenClaw or OpenCode with an Antigravity login violates its terms, and that wrapping `agy` inside third-party agents or rotating accounts is not supported on consumer plans; its terms name suspension of "Antigravity and/or Gemini CLI accounts" as a consequence ([FAQ](https://antigravity.google/docs/faq/), [terms, clause 6](https://antigravity.google/terms)). Anthropic's rules say third-party products should use an API key, or bill to usage credits where Anthropic allows it, rather than draw on subscription limits; signing in to the unmodified Claude Code program inside another app is allowed ([logging in to Claude](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/13189465-log-in-to-your-claude-account), [Claude Code legal and compliance](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/legal-and-compliance)).

If you exhaust Antigravity's or Claude Pro's model allowance, the options in order of commitment are: wait for the reset, set a capped overage budget (usage credits on Claude at API rates; AI credits on Google, at a Claude rate Google does not publish), add the other plan, or move up to Max or Ultra. Both overage routes need credits bought in advance ([usage credits](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/12429409-manage-usage-credits-for-paid-claude-plans), [Antigravity plans](https://antigravity.google/docs/plans)).

## How to check on your own work

We found no comparison that measures both $20 allowances on matched work; the user reports that exist mix plans, models and tasks. A trial of Google AI Pro is still useful for judging Antigravity's app, editor extensions and configuration, just not Claude 5.5 in it. To compare the two with Claude, you need a paid month of each.

1. **Decide which question you are asking.** A like-for-like harness test runs the same principal model in both and leaves Antigravity's custom subagents on `inherit`. A whole-plan test uses the workflows you would actually buy, for example Flash subagents in Antigravity or Jules for cloud maintenance on Google AI Pro. Do not mix the two.
2. **Check what is paying.** If `ANTHROPIC_API_KEY` is set, Claude Code bills the API instead of your Pro plan ([Claude Code with Pro or Max](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/11145838-use-claude-code-with-your-pro-or-max-plan)); unset it.
3. **Freeze the work.** Two or three real backlog items with tests, each run from the same commit, with the same instructions file and the same effort label (labels do not guarantee equal reasoning budgets). Note app and CLI versions.
4. **Record the outcome.** Tests passing, the diff you would merge, how often you stepped in, elapsed time, and both usage meters before and after (`/usage` in each CLI; [Antigravity CLI reference](https://antigravity.google/docs/cli/reference/), [Claude Code costs](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/costs)). A percentage point on one meter is not the same amount of work as on the other, so compare outcomes, not gauge ratios.
5. **Then live on it for a week.** Task runs show quality; only a normal week shows capacity, including any Claude chat you do on the Anthropic plan.

The switch rule: keep the plan on which a normal week of accepted changes fits inside the limits, or inside an overage budget you are comfortable with. If you need both models or both workflows, keep both.

## Using both

The plans stack without conflict. Claude Code is an ordinary terminal program, so it runs in the Antigravity IDE's terminal, or any other, on its own Claude login; users in Antigravity's subreddit describe paying for both and working this way ([r/google\_antigravity](https://www.reddit.com/r/google_antigravity/comments/1s9wmtr/antigravity_with_claude_pro/)).

* **Instructions.** One `AGENTS.md` serves both. Antigravity reads it directly; by default Claude Code (since 2.1.277) reads it only when no `CLAUDE.md`, `.claude/CLAUDE.md` or `CLAUDE.local.md` applies in the folder or above it, unless you change its Project instructions setting, so the simplest setup is a `CLAUDE.md` containing a line reading `@AGENTS.md` ([Claude Code memory](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/memory), [Antigravity rules](https://antigravity.google/docs/rules/)).
* **Skills.** Both read a folder with a `SKILL.md`, from `.agents/skills` in Antigravity and `.claude/skills` in Claude Code ([Antigravity skills](https://antigravity.google/docs/skills/), [Claude Code skills](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/skills)). On macOS or Linux, keep one folder and link it, provided `.agents/skills` exists and `.claude/skills` does not yet (otherwise the link lands inside it). The file format is shared; Claude-specific frontmatter and the tools a skill calls may not behave the same in both.

```text
mkdir -p .claude && ln -s ../.agents/skills .claude/skills
```

* **MCP servers.** Antigravity reads `.agents/mcp_config.json` in a project or `~/.gemini/config/mcp_config.json` globally, and a remote server's address goes in `serverUrl`, not `url` ([Antigravity MCP](https://antigravity.google/docs/mcp/)); Claude Code reads `.mcp.json` or adds servers with `claude mcp add` ([Claude Code MCP](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/mcp)). A remote server in Antigravity's format looks like this:

```text
{ "mcpServers": { "docs": { "serverUrl": "https://example.com/mcp" } } }
```

* **Hooks and plugins do not copy.** Antigravity's 1.4.3 release notes warn that a Claude Code style `hooks` file loads as a single hook named `hooks`, and its plugins ignore `commands/` folders ([release 1.4.3](https://github.com/google-antigravity/antigravity-cli/releases/tag/1.4.3)).

## Frequently asked questions

**Does Google AI Pro include Claude?** Yes, inside Antigravity: paid, non-trial Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers can pick Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5 as the agent model ([Antigravity models](https://antigravity.google/docs/models)). It does not include Claude Code, the Claude apps or an Anthropic account; Claude Code needs a Claude plan, an Anthropic API key or a supported cloud provider ([authentication](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/authentication)).

**Is Claude in Antigravity as good as Claude Code?** Shared model access does not establish equal output quality. Both offer Opus 5.5, but their tools, effort controls and permission systems differ ([Antigravity models](https://antigravity.google/docs/models), [permissions](https://antigravity.google/docs/permissions/), [Claude Code model configuration](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/model-config), [permission modes](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/permission-modes)). Compare changes you would accept on your own repository before choosing by quality.

**Can Google AI Pro run coding tasks with my laptop closed?** Yes, through Jules, which runs GitHub repository tasks in cloud VMs using Gemini models ([Jules](https://jules.google/)). Pro includes 100 tasks per rolling 24 hours and 15 concurrent tasks ([Jules limits](https://jules.google/docs/usage-limits/)), and Jules supports recurring daily or weekly schedules ([scheduled tasks](https://jules.google/docs/scheduled-tasks/)). Antigravity's own Remote Control still needs its host machine awake ([Remote Control](https://antigravity.google/docs/remote-control/)); for cloud sessions and scheduled work using Claude Code, choose Claude Pro ([cloud sessions](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/claude-code-on-the-web), [scheduled tasks](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/routines)).

**How much Claude do I get on Google AI Pro?** Google does not say. Claude and GPT models share a pool separate from Gemini's, with five-hour and weekly limits ([plans](https://antigravity.google/docs/plans), [plan changes](https://antigravity.google/blog/changes-to-antigravity-plans/)). Anthropic does not publish Claude Pro's allowance either ([Pro and Max](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/11145838-use-claude-code-with-your-pro-or-max-plan)).

**Can I use my Google AI Pro login in Claude Code?** No. Google's terms forbid accessing Antigravity through third-party software and name suspension as the consequence ([Antigravity FAQ](https://antigravity.google/docs/faq/), [terms](https://antigravity.google/terms)), and a Google subscription does not authenticate or pay for Claude Code, which Anthropic supports with Claude models only ([LLM gateway](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/llm-gateway)).

**Is Antigravity CLI the same as Gemini CLI?** No. Antigravity CLI (`agy`) is a closed-source program that shares the Antigravity app's agent; Gemini CLI is the older open-source tool, which since 18 June 2026 serves paid API keys and company Code Assist seats but not personal Google sign-ins ([Google's announcement](https://developers.googleblog.com/an-important-update-transitioning-gemini-cli-to-antigravity-cli/)).

**Is Antigravity free?** There is a free tier with Gemini 3.8 Flash on a weekly quota, plus Claude 4.6 and GPT-OSS-120B until 2 November 2026 ([models](https://antigravity.google/docs/models), [plans](https://antigravity.google/docs/plans)). Claude 5.5 and Gemini 4 Argon need paid Pro or Ultra.
