MAI-Image-2.5 Pro vs MAI-Image-2.5
MAI-Image-2.5 is Microsoft AI's image model from June 2026; MAI-Image-2.5 Pro is the quality-focused version from July, rebuilt for precise editing. Both ran the same twelve prompts through fal on 22 October 2026, with the same ratios, 16:9 for the banner since neither offers 21:9.

Which to use
Pro, when the result has to be right. It spelled the infographic's title correctly where 2.5 wrote 'pour-pover', drew a clean chart axis where 2.5 repeated 250 and 150, put three ice cubes in the glass where 2.5 put four or five, and added a real brass handle in the edit where 2.5 hung a small ring on the rim. Both make warm, convincing photographs, both set the poster's smaller lines in capitals, and both return about a megapixel or less with no 21:9. Pro costs about $0.17 an image against about $0.05 on fal, read on 22 October 2026, and took a little longer, median 29 seconds against 21. One run per prompt is a fair first look, not a ranking.

Frequently asked questions
Is MAI-Image-2.5 Pro better than MAI-Image-2.5?
On our twelve prompts, yes on type, the composition test and the edit; the photographs are similar. Microsoft built Pro for precise, consistent editing.
How much more does Pro cost?
On fal, about $0.17 a text-to-image request against about $0.05, roughly three and a half times. Pro edits run $0.18 to $0.27 by fal's estimate.
Were both run the same way?
