Voyager vs Claude

You don’t choose between them. Voyager runs Claude Code as its agent on your existing Claude plan, at no charge from Voyager, and gives it what Claude lacks for media work: image, video, voice and music models at published rates, control of Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Blender and more, and Voyager’s own design, video and music editors.

Add Voyager when

  • The job needs generated images, video, voice or music, not only code-built visuals.
  • The work has to land in Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Resolve, Blender or Ableton Live as an editable project.
  • You want Claude Code to cut, score and finish a piece, with previews beside the conversation.

Claude alone is enough when

  • The work is writing, code, analysis or research.
  • Diagrams, prototypes, slides or a code-animated explainer are the deliverable.
  • A connector to one app, such as Canva or Figma, covers the whole job.

What each one is

An agent, and the creative harness around it.

What is Voyager?

Voyager is a desktop agent harness for creative work, for macOS with Windows and Linux in alpha. It runs Claude Code, Codex or its own agent, and gives that agent cloud image, video, voice and music models, skills for the creative apps on your computer, Voyager’s own Design, Video and DAW editors, and previews of the work beside the conversation.

What is Claude?

Claude is Anthropic’s AI, in its apps on web, desktop and phone, in Cowork for longer tasks on your files, and in Claude Code, the agent for the terminal, editor and desktop. It writes, codes and reasons, builds visuals and prototypes as code, and reaches other software through connectors, plugins and, in beta, by operating your screen. It does not generate photos, footage or music.

Media models

Claude writes the code. Voyager adds the cameras.

Anthropic is plain about it: Claude does not generate photos or illustrations. Its visuals are code, from SVG diagrams to Claude Design prototypes, and Claude Motion, launched on 8 October 2026, animates text and charts without generating footage. That covers a lot of design work. It does not cover a product shot, a 10-second clip of a street at night, a voiceover or a music bed.

Inside Voyager, Claude Code gets those as tools. It can call Veo 3.1, Seedance, Kling, Nano Banana, GPT Image, ElevenLabs and dozens more, each at a published rate, 1 credit for 1¢ of what the provider charges, with no keys to collect. Or bring your own fal, Google, ElevenLabs or Higgsfield keys and pay those providers directly.

On Claude

On its own, Claude can reach a generator through a connector or an MCP server, such as Adobe’s, which includes Firefly, and each bills you on its own account. (Adobe connector, read ; Can Claude produce images?, read ; Dashboards and Motion, read )

Your apps

Skills for the apps creative work happens in.

Claude reaches desktop software in three ways today: connectors such as Blender’s, MCP servers you install, and, in beta, operating the screen. Each works, and each is one more thing to find, install and trust. Our guides cover the MCP route app by app, from Photoshop and Premiere Pro to DaVinci Resolve and Ableton Live.

Voyager ships the skills instead. Claude Code gets Photoshop scripting, a local bridge for Premiere Pro, Resolve’s scripting API and the rest, so it builds layers, cuts timelines and lays out scenes in the real app, with your licences, and the files stay ordinary projects.

Without those apps, Voyager’s own Design, Video and DAW editors come with it, free, and export PSD, SVG, Lottie, OTIO, FCPXML, stems and MIDI.

  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator
  • After Effects
  • Premiere Pro
  • DaVinci Resolve
  • Final Cut Pro
  • Blender
  • Unity
  • Ableton Live
  • + many more
  • Voyager Design

Vector, raster and paint layers, layout, decks with PPTX, and motion graphics with keyframes. Exports PNG, SVG, PDF, PSD, Lottie and ProRes 4444 with alpha.

  • Voyager Video

Timeline, multicam, colour and keys. Hands off to Resolve and Premiere as OTIO, FCPXML or EDL, and delivers H.264, HEVC, ProRes and DNxHR.

  • Voyager DAW

Arranging, instruments, VST3 plug-ins, mixing and mastering to loudness targets, stems and MIDI export, and scoring to picture: cues from a video’s cuts and ducking under voice-over.

You bring your own licences. Live control of the Adobe apps runs on macOS today. Voyager DAW does most of what you would do in Ableton Live or Logic Pro, from arranging and recording to mixing and mastering, and the rest is on the way. It doesn’t have sampled orchestral instruments yet. Trademarks belong to their owners; Voyager isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by them.

On Claude

Anthropic’s connectors cover Adobe’s cloud apps, Canva, Figma, Blender, Splice and others, and its skills repo includes demonstration skills for generative art and canvas design. (Claude for creative work, read ; anthropics/skills, read )

Finished work

Claude Code, finishing a piece.

Inside Voyager, Claude Code doesn’t stop at a file. It lays generated shots on a timeline in Premiere Pro, Resolve or Voyager Video, writes and mixes a score in Voyager DAW or Ableton Live, and builds titles and motion graphics in After Effects or Voyager Design. Each step shows in a preview beside the conversation, so you can redirect it as it works, and what is left is a project you can open and change, not a flat file.

Cost

Your Claude plan, plus models at cost.

How Voyager charges

Running Claude Code in Voyager costs nothing from Voyager. Its usage counts against your Claude plan’s limits, as it would anywhere else.

Media generation is 1 credit for 1¢ of what the model’s provider charges, with no markup and every rate published. With your own model keys, the app is free.

The Voyager plugin brings the same skills and command-line tools into Claude Code without the Voyager window.

How Claude charges

Free covers chat, artifacts, Claude Design, Slides and Docs. Pro, from $17 a month billed annually, adds Claude Code. (Claude pricing, read )

Max is $100 a month for five times Pro’s usage, or $200 for twenty times. (What is the Max plan, read )

Team and Enterprise add Claude Motion and admin controls. (Claude pricing, read )

Claude on its own

When Claude alone is enough.

  • Writing, code and analysis

Scripts, briefs, research, data and software need nothing Voyager adds. Claude, in its apps or Claude Code, is the whole tool.

  • Code-built visuals

Diagrams, dashboards, interactive pages and prototypes are what Claude’s artifacts and Claude Design are for, with exports to PowerPoint, PDF, HTML and Canva. (What are artifacts, read ; Introducing Claude Design, read )

  • Motion from your own assets

Claude Motion animates text, charts and your images into MP4 explainers, on Team and Enterprise, with no generation model involved. (Dashboards and Motion, read )

  • One app, one connector

If the job lives in a single tool with a good connector, such as a Canva design or a Figma file, Claude can work there directly. (Canva connector, read )

FAQ

Questions, answered.

More about Voyager in the FAQ and on the pricing page.

How we checked

Claude’s plans and features were read on 8 October 2026 from claude.com, Anthropic’s help centre, the Claude Code docs and Anthropic’s announcements, signed out, in the US. Claude Motion launched that day. Each Claude claim links its source. Voyager’s facts come from its published rates and the desktop app, where Claude Code runs as the agent on the user’s own sign-in. Where we say Claude does not do something, Anthropic says so or does not list it.

Can I use my Claude subscription in Voyager?

Yes. Connect Claude in Voyager’s settings and Claude Code runs on its official runtime with your existing sign-in. Voyager never bills your Claude plan, and usage counts against your Claude plan’s own limits.

Do I need Voyager if I already have Claude?

Not for writing, code, analysis or code-built visuals. You need it, or something like it, when the work calls for generated images, video, voice or music, or has to be built in Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Resolve, Blender or a DAW as an editable project.

Can Claude generate images or video?

Not by itself. Anthropic says Claude does not generate photos or illustrations; it builds visuals as HTML and SVG. Claude Motion animates text, charts and images into MP4 without generating footage. Inside Voyager, Claude Code can call image and video models such as Nano Banana, Veo 3.1 and Seedance. (Can Claude produce images?, read ; Dashboards and Motion, read )

Can Claude use Photoshop or Premiere Pro?

Through connectors and MCP servers, yes, in part: Adobe’s connector runs its cloud tools, community MCP servers script the desktop apps, and screen control is in beta. Voyager gives Claude Code skills for Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Resolve, Blender and more. (Adobe connector, read ; Let Claude use your computer, read )

Can I use Voyager from inside Claude Code?

Yes. Install the Voyager plugin and the same creative skills and command-line tools work in Claude Code. Generation and editing run without the Voyager window; screen recording and computer control use the Voyager desktop app on a Mac. (Claude Code plugins, read )

Which Claude plan do I need?

Claude Code needs Pro or above: Pro is $20 a month, or $17 billed annually, and Max is $100 or $200 a month for more usage. Voyager adds no charge for using it. (Claude pricing, read ; What is the Max plan, read )

Is Voyager made by Anthropic?

No. Voyager is made by Nullframe and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Anthropic. It runs Claude Code through Anthropic’s official runtime on your own account.
