Voyager vs OpenArt

OpenArt is a web app for AI images and story videos, with saved characters and a chat Director for films up to five minutes. Voyager is a desktop AI agent that generates with many of the same models, then finishes the work in Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Blender or its own design, video and music editors, as an editable project.

Choose Voyager if

  • The edit, titles and score have to be exact, and stay editable afterwards.
  • You want the agent working in your own apps, on projects you can hand over.
  • You want every model’s price published, not shown after sign-up.

Choose OpenArt if

  • You want a story video from a prompt, with the same character in every scene.
  • You would rather direct by chat than cut on a timeline.
  • You want to generate in a browser, on any computer or phone.

What each one is

A story generator, or an agent on your computer.

What is Voyager?

Voyager is a desktop app for macOS, with Windows and Linux in alpha. Its agent, or your own Claude Code or Codex, generates with cloud models when a step needs one, then carries on in the software where the project lives, including Voyager’s own Design, Video and DAW editors, so the result stays a layered, editable project.

What is OpenArt?

OpenArt is a web app that sells one credit balance across more than 100 image, video and audio models. It is built around characters and stories: Character Training keeps a face consistent, One Click Story makes videos of up to three minutes, and Director plans and edits films of up to five minutes in chat, with a storyboard and a timeline view.

Finished work

Directed by chat, or finished in an editor.

OpenArt’s Director is the closest any generator comes to a finished film: you describe the story, it plans scenes, generates them with consistent characters, and you change things by asking. It is built so there is “no timeline to learn”. That is its strength and its limit. When a cut has to land on a beat, a title has to sit in a set typeface, or the mix needs a level change, chat is a blunt tool, and the film leaves as a rendered file.

Voyager’s agent does that precise work in real editors. In the recording below, one prompt asks for a 45-second original score for a launch video. The agent writes the parts as code in Voyager DAW, arranges 12 tracks across six sections, places impacts on the peaks and renders stems mastered to -16 LUFS; the motion graphics come from Voyager Design. No generation model was used, and every note and keyframe can still be changed.

One prompt to a finished, editable 12-track score in Voyager DAW: 45 seconds, mastered to -16 LUFS. Recorded in the desktop app, October 2026.

On OpenArt

OpenArt’s Director reaches five minutes with a storyboard and a timeline view, and its AI Video Editor reworks clips by prompt: background, relighting, face swap, voice with lip-sync, extend and 4K upscale. (How to use OpenArt Director, read ; AI Video Editor, read )

Your apps

It works in the apps you already use.

OpenArt lives in the browser, and its work leaves as downloads. Voyager’s agent operates the creative software on your computer, with your own licences: it builds layers in Photoshop, cuts in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, animates in After Effects and lays out scenes in Blender. The shot lands on your timeline and the still in your layered file, ready for you or a colleague to take over.

If you don’t own those apps, Voyager’s own Design, Video and DAW editors come with it, free, and export PSD, SVG, Lottie, OTIO, FCPXML, stems and MIDI so the work can move to them later.

  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator
  • After Effects
  • Premiere Pro
  • DaVinci Resolve
  • Final Cut Pro
  • Blender
  • Unity
  • Ableton Live
  • + many more
  • Voyager Design

Vector, raster and paint layers, layout, decks with PPTX, and motion graphics with keyframes. Exports PNG, SVG, PDF, PSD, Lottie and ProRes 4444 with alpha.

  • Voyager Video

Timeline, multicam, colour and keys. Hands off to Resolve and Premiere as OTIO, FCPXML or EDL, and delivers H.264, HEVC, ProRes and DNxHR.

  • Voyager DAW

Arranging, instruments, VST3 plug-ins, mixing and mastering to loudness targets, stems and MIDI export, and scoring to picture: cues from a video’s cuts and ducking under voice-over.

You bring your own licences. Live control of the Adobe apps runs on macOS today. Voyager DAW does most of what you would do in Ableton Live or Logic Pro, from arranging and recording to mixing and mastering, and the rest is on the way. It doesn’t have sampled orchestral instruments yet. Trademarks belong to their owners; Voyager isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by them.

Your accounts

Same models, on the accounts you already pay for.

Seedance 2.5, Veo 3.1 or Nano Banana Pro is the same model on either product, so quality on a shared model is not the difference. What Voyager adds is choice of who pays. Use a Voyager plan, add your own fal, Google or ElevenLabs keys, or sign in with Higgsfield to spend a Higgsfield plan, and set the order Voyager tries them in. Each generation records which account paid for it.

The agent is your choice too: Voyager’s own, or Claude Code or Codex on the Claude or ChatGPT subscription you already have, at no charge from Voyager.

Pricing

Every rate published, before you sign up.

How Voyager charges

A credit is 1¢ of what the model’s provider charges, with no markup on any plan; where Voyager gets a lower rate, so do you.

Every model’s rate is published on the pricing page, so a generation’s cost is known before you sign up.

With your own model keys and your own Claude or ChatGPT, the app costs nothing.

How OpenArt charges

OpenArt sets a credit price per model and shows it on the Generate button once you sign in. Public pages give ranges, and one model’s price. (OpenArt help centre, read ; Nano Banana 2 Lite on OpenArt, read )

Unlimited on select models comes with Pro and Wonder, on the website only, not through MCP or the CLI. (OpenArt pricing, read )

Monthly credits do not roll over. Add-on credits cost $15 a month for 5,000 and need Plus or above. (OpenArt pricing, read )

One example

Nano Banana 2 Lite, 1K, one image

Nano Banana 2 Lite is the one model whose credit cost OpenArt states on a public page. It costs less on Voyager on every matched plan. No public figure exists for OpenArt’s video models, so this says nothing about video.

OpenArt: 15 credits, read 8 October 2026. Voyager: 3 credits at 1¢ each.

Where OpenArt wins

When OpenArt is the better pick.

  • Story video from a prompt

One Click Story and Director turn an idea into a multi-scene video of up to three or five minutes, without touching a timeline. Voyager can build a film too, but works the way an editor does. (OpenArt help centre, read ; How to use OpenArt Director, read )

  • Consistent characters

Character Training saves a face or mascot and reuses it across scenes, with up to 353 saved characters depending on the plan. (OpenArt pricing, read )

  • Models Voyager lacks

  • Nothing to install

OpenArt runs in any browser, on a computer or a phone. Voyager is a desktop app, with mobile apps still to come. (OpenArt help centre, read )

FAQ

Questions, answered.

More about Voyager in the FAQ and on the pricing page.

How we checked

OpenArt’s plans, models and features were read on 8 October 2026 from openart.ai, its help centre, its blog and its Terms, signed out, in the US. Its per-generation charges sit behind sign-in, so the only figure used is the one a public page states. Each OpenArt claim links its source. Voyager’s facts come from its published rates and the desktop app. We did not compare output quality: a shared model is the same model on both products.

What is the difference between Voyager and OpenArt?

OpenArt is a web app for AI images and story videos, with saved characters and a chat Director, paid for in OpenArt credits. Voyager is a desktop agent that uses many of the same models and also works in the creative apps on your computer and in its own design, video and music editors, so the result stays a layered, editable project.

Is Voyager cheaper than OpenArt?

On the one model whose OpenArt price is public, Nano Banana 2 Lite at 1K, Voyager costs less on every matched plan. OpenArt shows its other prices only after sign-in, so there is no public figure for its video models to compare. Voyager publishes every rate. (Nano Banana 2 Lite on OpenArt, read ; OpenArt help centre, read )

Can OpenArt edit video?

Yes, by prompt. Its AI Video Editor changes backgrounds, lighting, faces and voices in clips of 1 to 10 seconds, and Director edits a multi-scene film in chat, with a timeline view. It is not a frame-accurate editor; Voyager’s agent works in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Voyager Video for that. (AI Video Editor, read ; AI Movie Maker, read )

Can I use OpenArt output commercially?

On Plus and above. OpenArt’s Terms make Free and Starter output non-commercial, and free output carries a watermark you may not remove. On Voyager you own what you make, subject to each model provider’s terms. (OpenArt Terms, read ; OpenArt pricing, read )

Can I use Claude Code or Codex with either?

Yes, in different ways. OpenArt’s MCP server and CLI let Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor generate on your OpenArt account, at the website’s credit prices. Voyager lets Claude Code or Codex be the agent itself, on your own subscription, at no charge from Voyager. (OpenArt MCP, read )

Is OpenArt free?

OpenArt offers trial credits; free output is watermarked and non-commercial, and creations by accounts that never subscribe are deleted after 7 days. Voyager is free to download and use with your own agent and model keys. (OpenArt help centre, read )

Do I have to install Voyager?

Yes. Voyager is a free desktop app for macOS 15 or later on Apple silicon, with Windows 11 and Linux in alpha and mobile apps coming soon. OpenArt runs in a browser.

Try Voyager on your next project.

Free to download, with your own agent and keys.
